Attracted by Stieg Larsson's trilogy of novels in wave of Scandinavian noir, I thought I'd take the pulse of Anne Holt, Norwegian writer who passes for being one of the best exponents.
Complice a 30% discount at the Coop, my choice fell on "What you deserve" an interesting novel I want to talk before my memory swallow everything.
Anne Holt is a woman who in life makes a lot of things. It 'been a lawyer, was a television journalist, he worked for the police and - for a couple of years - was also Minister of Justice of his country.
short, an active girl.
As a writer, has published a dozen novels, four of which have been translated in Italy.
what you deserve, is the first novel he appears in the odd pair of detectives (sore back cover calls it) Stub and Vik.
Over 400 pages of a nice story, maybe a little 'slow at first but that slowly takes pace, until it became really exciting.
's a story for its construction, and also for some suggestions, winks' eye on Jeffrey Deaver's The Bone Collector.
And yet, the odd pair of detectives Norwegian, is really much more human (or maybe just a lot more European?) than it can be Lincoln Rhyme and Amelia Sachs Deaver (in the film, respectively bolso that Denzel Washington and Angelina Jolie that ugly).
stub is a cop solid and reassuring, too good at his job. A big man in one piece, marked by tragedy grotesque and terrifying. It 's not fascinating hero "do not ever have to ask," but a grandfather (do not be chilling: in Scandinavia, you have children at 20 years, so it is not uncommon for my age is ... a grandfather!) Reliable, that it loses all its security when it comes to court to Vik.
E Vik? A marriage that has left behind a daughter with mental problems. An oppressive mother and doubt whether to give another chance or not. In addition, a specialization course and a great talent profiler.
The story, as is natural, do not tell you about, but overall it is a story worth reading.
lacks the character that will remain in the heart (as Liesbeth Salander to be clear) but work and offer Stub and Vik (for me is a plus) an open window on the ordinary people of Oslo.
For me, calmly and once fully operational a discount of 30%, I'll get the other stories translated.
